Samsung rolling out massive 800MB update for Galaxy Note 8 that brings… nothing?

Update: Thanks to user feedback at Reddit and the comments section below (thanks Saarang007), we now know at least one feature that the CRF4 update adds over the previous build. And that’s video lock screen live wallpaper — you can set a 15-second video as Live Wallpaper on the lock screen of your Galaxy Note 8 after installing the CRF4 update. A pretty cool feature, right? No idea why Samsung didn’t mention it in the changelog. But this still doesn’t justify the size of the update.

Two weeks ago, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 users on the global variant started receiving an update with June 2018 security patches. However, some users of the same unit are now reporting that Samsung is pushing another update that’s surprisingly huge to be a mere bug fixer.

One would imagine this update brings a new security patch for the month of July or maybe a new Android 8.1 update, but even after installing the over 800MB file, the security patch level remains at June 2018 and the OS version is still 8.0. So, the question is what does this huge update bring to the Galaxy Note 8?

Well, besides Samsung, only you, our readers, can give us some answers. So far, we know the update has build number CRF4, up from the initial CRF1 build that brought the June patch to the SM-N950F variant. If you receive the update and notice any major changes or new features, feel free to let us know in your comments below.
