Samsung plans a 4GB/64GB online-only budget phone for India to tackle down Redmi Note 5. But can it?

A recent report by Counterpoint Research revealed that Samsung’s 29% market share was enough to topple Xiaomi off the top spot in the Indian smartphone market this past Q2 2018. Apparently, this was largely due to the success of the newly launched budget Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J8, which Samsung says were able to sell 50,000 units per day.

Now, to further bolster its chances of retaining the top position in the Indian market in Q3 2018, Samsung is reportedly planning to unveil another budget smartphone, but this time around, it will be an online exclusive, just like the Galaxy On6 that came out earlier this month.

At the moment, details of this phone’s name, price, and full specs are still unknown, but it is claimed that the device could come with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage. As is, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy smartphone will be unveiled in the country this week, which is when we’ll know more about the specs, features and pricing details.

It’s obvious that Samsung’s aim is to disrupt Xiaomi’s recent success in the country by delivering value phones that offer more in terms of design, specs, and features. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro have been the talk of the town since their Valentine’s Day launch in India, but now that Samsung’s Galaxy J6 and J8 are doing a great job taking down Xiaomi, the upcoming device is here to further strengthen the duo’s continued battle to tackle down the Redmi Note 5 and co.
