Galaxy S8 Oreo update: Users in UK receiving third Android 8.0 beta

Samsung Galaxy S8 update

Update [November 23, 2017]: At least in the UK, Samsung has confirmed rollout of its third beta Oreo update, which is now live for both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ users, coming in as software version ZQKG. Find the full changelog here.

Update [November 10, 2017]: Samsung is now rolling out another Android 8.0 beta OTA, call it Beta 2 if you want, which comes as software version G950FXXU1ZQK4. The update is pretty hefty at 609.57MB, but we would happy take it given the large list of issues that pre-occupied the first beta. have you received the Beta 2 update. BTW, the QK4 build is meant for the model SM-G950F, which is sold in Europe and Asia. The US model, SM-G950U, has already had its Beta 2 Android 8.0 update available as version G950USQU1ZQK1 a few days ago. For those wondering, well yes, the update for US S8 Oreo is available for download, and can be installed on S8 of any carrier in US, including AT&T and Verizon — check this: Install S8 Oreo beta update on any S8 in US.

Update [November 08, 2017]: You can now install the Oreo update from beta program on your AT&T S8 too, even if Samsung has made the program official only for T-Mobile and Sprint users. Of course, this little sweet hack, and one of the things we enjoy doing on Android. Head to our page here on How to install Galaxy S8 Oreo manually without registration in Oreo beta program.

Update [November 01, 2017]: Oreo rolling out! Samsung has started rollout of the Android Oreo update in US. See the screenshot below. This is a beta update, BTW, one that is available to those who selected randomly from the Samsung beta program.

Update [October 30, 2017]: A Wi-Fi security flaw that was recently discovered and dubbed as KRACK (Key Reinstallation AttaCK) is now easily preventable on Verizon Galaxy S8 and S8+. Today, Verizon released a new update for their S8 devices, one that is not Android 8.0 Oreo, but brings an important security fix for your device. The OTA update is rolling out as version G950USQS1AQJA for the Verizon S8, and version G955USQS1AQJA for the Verizon S8 Plus. in 8.0 update news, Samsung could begin the beta program by October 31 in USA.

Update [October 24, 2017]: Samsung has finally revealed the official release date of its Android 8.0 Oreo update. And it’s — without much surprise, really — early 2018. This comes via Samsung Turkey’s blog, who let us know that we can expect the first build of Oreo update from Samsung in early 2-18 — which is the Android 8.0 build for the Galaxy S8 users in Turkey, and the worldwide unlocked sets. Though, we still expect Samsung to come up with Oreo beta program in US, Europe and India, first, sometime in November. For more details, check out this page on Samsung’s Oreo plans.

Update [September 29, 2017]: We’re yet to hear a word from Samsung on this, but reports have emerged claiming Samsung is now internally testing the S8’s Android 8.0 build. We can’t put a fair Oreo OTA release just yet, but we think if alpha build Samsung has with them run alright, they could open up registration for the beta testing of Galaxy S8 Oreo update, where interested users can apply, and chosen ones given a beta Oreo update via an OTA update later on, perhaps by October-end, or early November.

Original article: The Android 8.0 Oreo update should hit the Galaxy S8 before any other Samsung device out there, but that doesn’t mean you have got the update coming soon to the S8 near you. As of August 30, 2017, just know that preparing the Galaxy S8 Oreo update would take Samsung some time.

For now, even the Android 7.1.1 update for the Galaxy S8 is pending with Samsung, and users have been perplexed figuring out what’s taking so long for Samsung to come out with the minor incremental update.

For what it’s worth, we do expect the S8 7.1.1 OTA to start rolling out soon, as Samsung does have a 7.1.1 firmware ready with it, albeit for another device, Galaxy J3 2017 — it comes with 7.1.1 pre-installed, in case you were wondering.

Check out the article below to find out expected release date of the Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) and Android 8.0 (Oreo) update for the Galaxy S8, including all its variants, particularly those in USA: AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 update release details

Update [November 10, 2017]: Beta 2 of Samsung’s 8.0 update under the beta program is now available. If you are in US, you can download the 8.0 beta update on any carrier Galaxy S8 set, even without needing to register with Samsung for Oreo under the program.

Come January 2018, we could expect the Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 becoming available for download as an OTA, or firmware, for the global unlocked variant of the device that comes as model no. G950F.

The USA variants, one at Sprint, Verizon, etc. carriers, carrying the model no. SM-G950U, should be seeing the update released sometime in February-March 2018. Same with the Canadian S8 sets.

While Korean S8 sets could equal or even beat the global variant to release, remaining units of the Galaxy S8 (including USA unlocked ones), should get their share of Android 8.0 update before the end of May 2018.

Update [November 01, 2017]: Sprint Galaxy S8 users now have the Oreo update available as beta. Of course, not everyone would get the Oreo right now, but Samsung today started rolling out Oreo under their beta program, which means a lot, too. Given this, we can hope for the stable Oreo release for S8 users worldwide in next month, or in January 2018 for sure.

Update [November 01, 2017]: The Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 is available as beta for the T-Mobile users as well in the US. If you registered under the beta program, you might want to check for an update now. However, the rollout under beta program is limited to selected few users only, and thus might have to wait for the release of public version 8.0. We expect Samsung to hand us public release of Oreo sometime in January 2018.
