Galaxy S8 Plus Oreo update: Third beta Android 8.0 update starts hitting UK

Update [November 23, 2017]: At least in the UK, Samsung has confirmed rollout of its third beta Oreo update, which is now live for both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ users, coming in as software version ZQKG. Find the full changelog here.

Update [November 10, 2017]: Beta 2 of Samsung Android 8.0 update is now available for those who received the first beta as an OTA under the beta program. In US (model SM-G950U), it’s available as software version G950USQU1ZQK1, while in UK (model SM-G950F), the second beta is hitting as version G950FXXU1ZQK4. if you wish to download the S8 beta Oreo update for your device, you can do so, just check the dedicated section for that below. As you are manually installing it, there is no need to register with Samsung for this. Easy!

Update [November 01, 2017]: Oreo beta is out! As promised earlier, Samsung has begun Oreo rollout in the US, where the S8 Plus users who registered for the Oreo under the Galaxy Beta program, are now seeing Android 8.0 hitting their devices as an OTA, software version being G955USQU1ZQJJ.

Update [October 30, 2017]: Verizon is rolling out an OTA update for the S8 Plus, that fixes the Wi-Fi security issue called KRACK, short for Key Reinstallation AttaCK. We advise you to looks for the system update now (check under Settings > updates) and install this update. The software version of the update on Verizon S8 Plus is G955USQS1AQJA. We are still waiting on the Oreo update from Samsung, but latest rumors have pointed out that we might see Samsung begin registration for Android 8.0 beta update from tomorrow, October 31.

Download Android 8.0 beta update

Update [November 10, 2017]: There is a trick available now that lets you install Android 8.0 Oreo beta manually on your Sprint and AT&T S8 Plus handsets too. Actually, this applies to any S8 and S8 Plus in USA, and even if you were unable to grab the 8.0 beta under the program, on T-Mobile and Sprint, you can download and install Android 8.0 now using this trick. See this hack here: How to download Galaxy S8 Plus beta in US.

Samsung S8 Plus can be said to be most sold Android smartphone at the moment. No wonder may of you have questions regarding when the device would get an update to Android 8.0? Well, Samsung is said to be working on the S8 Plus Oreo, but there is no concrete release date available.

You would notice that we used the phrase ‘said to be’ above, that’s because all the talks about the S8 Plus 8.0 update have been in rumors only. Unlike Sony and HTC, who have talked about their Oreo update plans, Samsung clearly doesn’t there is a need for it — well, that’s is not the best case scenario but we guess we would have to make do with it.

Anyway, the S8 Plus Oreo seems to be a given. The S8 Plus could be actually be one of the first update along with the S8 to receive the Samsung Oreo update.

It’s a question of when the S8 Plus receives the Oreo update than whether it will receive it or not. Let’s talk about it in some detail, as we need to address this question with respect to each model of the S8 Plus, which are many: the carrier locked variants at Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, US Cellular, etc. in US alone, while regions world over too have different models.

Galaxy S8 Plus Android 7.1.1 update release

Note: It looks increasingly likely that Samsung would skip the 7.1.1 as it plans to release Android 8.0. With Oreo beta released now, we are pretty sure of this.

Samsung hasn’t revealed when does it plan to release the Android 7.1.1 update for the S8 Plus, or the Galaxy S8 for that matter. As much weird as it is, that’s the unexplainable situation right now.

We surely expected the 7.1.1 to roll out by now, but now it seems there is a slight chance that they would skip the 7.1.1 in favor of Android 8.0 directly.

Galaxy S8 Plus Android 8.0 update release

Samsung has revealed that they plan to release the first OTA carrying Oreo upgrade sometime in January 2018. That is stable release we are talking about, so we still expect Samsung to start its 8.0 beta registrations within next few weeks, or maximum a month from today (Oct 24).

Before rolling out the stable Oreo update, we think Samsung would launch the Android 8.0 beta registration program, wherein it would invite users to register their device for the Oreo beta OTA.

They could this via an app, but we will know more about this later. More important thing is, we expect the Oreo beta program to begin sometime in November 2017, but it could easily delayed and become live in December 2017.

The Oreo beta would arrive for the unlocked Galaxy S8 Plus first, which comes as model no. SM-G955F/FD, but we do expect the carrier variants (model no. SM-G955U) in US to be part of the Oreo beta program too.

Once the beta Oreo update arrives, Samsung could take another month to collect feedback from beta users of 8.0, and solve the bugs, issues and problems it finds with its beta 8.0 update.

After which, we can expect Samsung to release the stable Android 8.0 for their unlocked global handset, SM-G955F/FD, sometime in January 2018, while also hand the stable version of the update to carriers in US and world over, who shall test the update on their own, before releasing it to their users, and this could happen anytime within Q1 2018. but don’t be surprised to see some carriers delay the update to April 2018.
