Samsung Galaxy S5 and J7 Prime receiving March security update

Samsung is seeding out a new firmware update to Galaxy S5 and J7 Prime. The update installs the March security patch on these two devices.

Arriving as build number G900FDXXS1CQC1 to Galaxy S5, the monthly security patch also fixes regular bugs and tags along system improvements. On Galaxy J7 Prime, software update with build number G610MUBU1AQC2 does the work.

The software update is being rolled out over the air (OTA) as we speak. As is the case with OTA updates, it is being pushed in stages. As such, it may take a while to hit your device. But you can always check for it manually. Head over to Settings > About device > System updates. Needless to say, get your device sufficiently charged and connected to a WiFi network before hitting the download button.

Galaxy S5 was Samsung’s flagship device launched with Android KitKat on board which has been bumped up to Marshmallow OS. Samsung might be good with monthly updates, but when it comes to OS the picture isn’t so glossy. Thus, Galaxy S5 getting another update to Nougat is highly unlikely.

On the other hand, the mid-range Galaxy J7 Prime with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow runs chances of getting a Nougat update. But that should happen only in the second half of this year.
