Galaxy Note 8 Pie update news: Android 9 beta program is live for unlocked, UK variants

Galaxy Note 8 Oreo update

Latest news

January 18, 2019: Samsung UK has opened the One UI beta program that brings Android 9 Pie to the Galaxy Note 8. The device had already been spotted with Pie on board a few days ago, but this now official. You can join the beta program right away, but know that this is unfinished software that may have bugs and errors.

Samsung had recently pointed out that the Note 8 will make the switch to Pie in February/March 2019. It remains to be seen whether this promise will be kept, but considering the company only needed a little over a month to test and release the stable version of Pie for S9 users, we won’t be surprised if the OS starts rolling out next month.

Meanwhile, you can also check out our page on how to download Android Pie on Galaxy Note 8.

January 15, 2019: Unexpectedly, Samsung has started testing Android 9 Pie beta with One UI on the Galaxy Note 8. This has so far been spotted in the Indian market, but it is believed the target is the unlocked variant of the phone.

The One UI beta update is arriving as version N950FXXU5ZSA5, weighs about 1.9GB and tags along the latest Android security patch for the month of January 2019. The fact that this is a beta version means that Samsung will be wary of where it rolls out the update, so don’t be surprised if you don’t get the nod to join the party. Still, anyone will be able to install the new OS once the download file is available.

In the screenshot below, you should see the full changelog attached to this beta update.

Users of the Galaxy Note 8 can now join the beta program of Android 9 Pie. While the initial rollout was targeting those using the unlocked model, UK dwellers can also grab the One UI beta via Samsung UK and try Pie ahead of the rest. Hopefully, Samsung will keep its promise with the release date.

Samsung One UI

For the uninitiated, Samsung has once again changed its Android skin from Experience to One UI. Given the skin is part of Android 9 Pie, the Galaxy Note 8 will also get it. You can check out more about this new skin on this page.
