Hot on the heels of the news that Samsung will be unveiling an 8-inch variant of the Galaxy Note, unsurprisingly titled Galaxy Note 8.0, at the MWC in Barcelona next month, and with a Samsung official also confirming its existence, the first image of the device has now leaked out over the interweb.
There’s no guarantee that we are looking at the actual Galaxy Note 8.0, though its design certainly looks in line with the design of all Samsung devices launched in 2012. The specs mentioned on the picture are in-line with the specs rumored earlier – the processor details weren’t available back then, but we can see it is a quad-core 1.6GHz chip, no doubt a Exynos 4412 similar to the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3.
Other specs include a 8-inch Super Clear LCD display of 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, 2GB RAM, 5 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera, 16 GB internal storage along with microSD support, and HSPA+ 21 mbps connectivity. That’s all the image mentions, but Wi-Fi  802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC connectivity, 4600 mAh battery, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz UX are also rumored and will likely turn out to be true.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 is no doubt aimed at competing with the 7.9-inch iPad Mini, which Apple decided to position right between a full-sized iPad and a 7-inch tablet like the Nexus 7 and sold quite a few of them, and will entice many with more connectivity options, better specs, unique software features, and the S Pen stylus.
However, Apple does enjoy a much better tablet ecosystem with iOS, so that will always be something to consider when choosing between an iPad Mini and a Galaxy Note 8.0. For now, we’ll be sure to be on the lookout for any more information on the Galaxy Note 8.0 while eagerly waiting for the MWC and for the official launch.
