Samsung intros the first phone with a hole in the display, the Galaxy A8s

Right on schedule, Samsung today unveiled the Galaxy A8s, the world’s first phone with a hole in a display.

Samsung calls this Infinity-O display and we’re probably going to see this design trend spread like wild fire in the upcoming months.

Anyway, the Galaxy A8s is the first to adopt this new look. The phone features extremely slim bezels all around with just a tiny chin at the bottom. To clear up the top forehead, the selfie camera has now been accommodated in the hole we mentioned above, which is located in the top left corner of the display. The bizarre placement might pose some challenges to selfie lovers, who will probably have to learn new moves in order to snap that perfect selfie.

Specs

On top of boasting a unique design, the Galaxy A8s is pretty great when it comes to specs. It features a large 6.4-inch display (no word whether it’s an AMOLED or not) with 1080 x 2340 resolution and bundles a Snapdragon 710 processor under the hood. This is all backed up by either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

There’s a triple camera setup on the back comprised of a 24MP main sensor (f/1.7), a 10MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and a 5MP sensor (f/2.2) with depth-sensing. The selfie camera is an impressive 24MP (f/2.0) snapper.

The phone relies on a 3,400 mAh battery and comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box (with Samsung Experience 9 on top). A bit disappointing in this department, but hopefully an update will come soon enough.

When and where will you be able to buy it?

The Samsung Galaxy A8s goes up for pre-order in China starting December 12. It will go on sale on December 21 in Blue, Gray and Green gradient color options. Pricing is still a mystery, although it should cost around $450 (or INR 32,616).

Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t said whether it plans to launch the phone in other markets, although we certainly hope that will be the case someday.
