This is the Galaxy A8 Plus 2019 with a side fingerprint sensor

A couple of years ago, side-mounted fingerprint scanners were often associated with flagship Sony Xperia phones, until recently when the Japanese tech giant ditched this arrangement in favor of the much-favored rear-mounted unit. Upon making this move, Motorola didn’t waste time and it picked up on the technology for its Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play handsets, but it appears Samsung also wants in the fun.

Leaked images of a phone we believe is the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus 2019 suggest that the device will ship with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which will probably double up as the power button. The volume rockers keep their place above the sensor and there’s no button on the opposite edge.

Of course, like its predecessor, the alleged Galaxy A8 Plus 2019 has Samsung’s Infinity Display panel but looks set to lose the dual front-facing camera setup. However, there will be even more massive changes on the back panel. Instead of one, Samsung will include not two but up to three camera lenses on the back of the A8 Plus 2019 handset, but we still don’t know much about the exact specs of these lenses and how they will work. Still, Sammy’s device won’t be the first on the market with three camera lenses on the back, but it could just be one of the few with this kind of setup by the end of 2018.

This is not the first time we’ve seen this device showing up online. Not so long ago, the phone, which we believe bears model number SM-A750, made stops at the FCC and Wi-Fi Alliance. In fact, multiple variants of the phone have been cleared by the latter body with Android 8.0 Oreo, implying that this is a device that’s in the works.

In the past, Samsung has launched new Galaxy A handsets towards the end of the year, with others like this year’s Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus coming about in January 2018. Given this timing, it’s likely that we are looking at the successor to the A8 Plus 2018, which has model number SM-A730. Someone might be asking where’s SM-A740? Well, it’s probably got to do with tetraphobia in Asian markets, where the Galaxy A series is mostly sold.
