Android 8.0 Oreo rollout plan for Galaxy J7 Prime, On7 Prime, J7 2016, Galaxy Tab Active 2 and Galaxy Tab A 2016 revealed

Samsung can be full of surprises! Apparently, the Korean tech giant is lining up a second major OS upgrade for a number of its budget devices in the Galaxy J series, something that rarely happens for devices in this category.

Thanks to a software updates page that is maintained by Samsung Turkey, we can confirm that Samsung has plans to roll out a second OS upgrade to the Galaxy J7 2016 (SM-J710F) and Galaxy J7 Prime (SM-G610F), two devices that came with Marshmallow out of the box and have since been upgraded to Nougat.

Joining the duo in receiving a second Android OS upgrade will be the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (SM-T580 and SM-T587) and Galaxy Tab A 2016 with S Pen (SM-P580 and SM-P587). As for the Galaxy On7 Prime (SM-G611F) and Galaxy Tab Active 2 (SM-T395), the update to Android Oreo will be their major OS upgrade having been launched with Android Nougat preinstalled.

What’s interesting here is that all listed devices will reportedly be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo, yet Samsung has recently been busy rolling out Oreo 8.1 updates. Hopefully, the latter will be the update to arrive when the time comes.

Speaking of which, Samsung Turkey says the update will begin rolling out to the Galaxy On7 Prime and J7 Prime on October 12 with the Tab A 2016 (with S Pen) and Tab Active 2 to follow beginning November 15th and 16th, respectively. As for the Galaxy J7 2016 and Tab A 10.1, the Oreo update will begin rolling out on December 21st and 30th, respectively.

Note that it’s possible these dates are specific to the Turkish market, especially since we’ve seen similar release dates in the past for this market but they didn’t match the release windows in other regions. Also, you can never be so sure with software update release dates.
