Pixel Buds connection problems: Unable to pair with Android or iPhone

Google’s first ever wireless earphones, the Pixel Buds, launched alongside the Pixel 2 and a number of other smart device at an event in San Francisco on October 4th. The Pixel Buds are currently best Google Assistant earphones available on the market. The only other Google Assistant headphone currently available is Bose QC35 II which is optimized for Google Assistant and features a dedicated button on its ear cup to launch the Assistant.

Although Google has a custom chip for the Pixel Buds embedded into the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices for seamless connectivity, being a wireless bluetooth device, the Pixel Buds are bound to face connectivity issues like all other Bluetooth streaming devices does. The most common issue being unable to pair over Bluetooth OR audio stuttering issues.

In our own experience, the quickest fix for resolving connection issues with Bluetooth devices is to forget it from your phone’s setting and then pair again. This works for both Android devices and iPhones. If you’re facing connectivity issues on your Pixel Buds, then this is probably the quickest fix. Below’s how to do it on your Android phone.

  1. Go to device Settings » Connected devices » Bluetooth.
  2. Touch the Settings gear icon next to Pixel Buds, and select Forget from the pop-up menu.
  3. Now, try pairing your Pixel Buds again. It should work.

The method to get into Bluetooth settings could be different for your Android device. But the thing is to go to Bluetooth settings and forget/unpair your Pixel Buds, and then pair them again.

Pixel Buds also feature Fast Pair technology which connects your Android device to Pixel Buds within seconds when you open the Pixel Buds charging case. However, Fast pair requires that your device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat or above version of Android. Below are full prerequisites of using Fast pair on Pixel Buds.

  • Android Nougat and above
  • All requirements of Google Assistant also applies to Pixel Buds.
└ If you’ve Google assistant running on your phone, you’re good to go.
  • Active data connection
  • Bluetooth and Nearby activated
