Pixel and Pixel XL Android O root achieved

Some smart souls from XDA Developers have managed to gain root on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL running the Android O Developer preview 1. The method is a little complicated, but it works and gives users root on Android O.

If you’ve been using the Android O DP1 on your Pixel or Pixel XL, and have been waiting to root it, you can now. According to the XDA member, the root was achieved by installing Android 7.1.2 on one partition, and Android O on another partition.

After doing that, SuperSU was installed, and that enabled root on Android O as well. How exactly this works is not known, but it does and that’s what matters. The user has provided a step by step guide on how to get this done.

The method involved in getting root on Android O on the Pixel smartphones isn’t for the faint of heart. Therefore, proceed with caution, and best of luck. Hit the source link for instructions.

  1. This comment is not related to the main topic, but related to Android updates. Google has to slow down these milestone updates. They’re not giving enough time for the OEMs to catch up! Marshmallow is yet not available on most of the devices and O developer preview is already out!

    1. This is just a developers preview and the complete product is a long way out from us most likely september this year .Android is always releasing a new version every year. What gets me wondering is what their naming scheme will be after they are done using all the alphabets XD

    2. I know! But still I believe it’ll be out before even companies manage to release Nougat for most of their phones! Currently only flagships enjoy the latest flavor, but in some cases even the last year flagships are not yet updated.

    3. Well most likely it’ll be out by september or october which is when most releases are made by android

    4. Isnt it better to ask the OEMs and manufacturers and devs to catch up to speed? Slowing down progress seems counter productive. The whole point of google developer preview is for the sake of the developers. 🙂

  2. lucky Pixel users, they always get to try the new OS version 1st!!

  7. This is very good news for the devs who work on xposed and other superuser roms for pixel devices.
For users looking to install O and root on their pixels. PSA: The O preview is not even in the beta stage yet and is very unstable. I would not recommend flashing it on your pixel unless you are a develop, let alone root it.
