OnePlus 6T gets announced with in-display fingerprint scanner

Originally expected to take the wraps off its latest flagship on October 30, OnePlus has unveiled the OnePlus 6T a day earlier. This happened because Apple also announced a press event on October 30, so the company didn’t want to risk sharing the spotlight with Cupertino.

So the often-leak OnePlus 6T went official today, and as expected it comes boasting a waterdrop-shaped notch, an in-display fingerprint scanner and a big battery.

Specs

  • Optic 6.41-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution
  • Snapdragon 845 processor
  • 6GB/8GB of RAM

The main improvement compared to the OnePlus 6 it’s the in-display fingerprint scanner which the company dubs Screen Unlock. According to OnePlus, the technology can unlock the phone in as little as a third of a second.

This is an optical in-display sensor which uses light from the display to illuminate the finger as it’s being read. The reader is secure enough to be used for Android Pay transactions.

There some upgrades in the camera department, mostly software-wise. There’s a new Nightscape mode which is basically a souped-up HDR night mode that takes advantage of visual info from several frames to enhance details. It also reduces noise and motion blur.

Portrait Mode also gets a new studio lighting feature, so users can accentuate certain areas of the shot by controlling the luminosity of that particular area.
