Latest News

November 15, 2019: OnePlus has a reputation for rolling out software updates ahead of most of its competitors, and this year, too, they have done their best to extend the legacy.

OnePlus’ 2018 flagships, the OnePlus 6 and 6T, were updated to Android 10 at the start of the month, adhering to the company’s already published update timeline. Sadly, the rollout has been far from smooth for the two devices, with many users reporting critical bugs that hamper day to day work.

Gathering all the evidence at hand, the company has decided to temporarily pause the rollout of Android 10 for the OnePlus 6. OnePlus is currently working on another hotfix for the device and should resume the rollout once that’s ready.

November 01, 2019: Following the stable Android 10 rollout to the OnePlus 7 series, the Chinese OEM is finally giving a couple of its older devices a taste of Google’s latest software. Yes, that’s right, the first stable build of Android 10 is now available for the OnePlus 6. Apart from the highly-anticipated bump to Android 10, the security patch has also been upgraded to October 2019.

October 19, 2019: The wait is over for the OnePlus 6 owners. The Android 10 upgrade is finally rolling out for them, coming in as OxygenOS 10.0 update. This is a staged rollout, so it may take some time to reach all the users, but it should be completed within a matter of weeks. The OTA is sized about 1.8GB.

October 19, 2019: OnePlus has released the Open Beta 1 update today that is based on Android 10. If you are running Open Beta 25 build on your OnePlus 6, then the OTA update carrying Android 10 should be available for your device anytime now. However, those on the stable update, OxygenOS 9.0.9, they will have to wait another 2-3 weeks to get the stable Android 10 update.

Download links for the OnePlus 6 Open Beta 1 update based on Android 10 have been added in the timeline table below. You can manually download and install the updates, yes, even if you ar eon stable update. However, if you go back from Open Beta 1 Android 10 update to Android 9 Pie using the rollback builds OnePlus has provided, then that will require a factory reset.

OnePlus Android 9 update

How to install an update on OnePlus 6

Here’s how to install an update on the OnePlus 6 handsets. It’s pretty easy, thankfully, and within minutes you will find yourself updating your device like a pro.

Method #1: Standard method

If you have the developer preview version of Android P installed, you need to follow Method #2 below. If you have Android Oreo (or even Open Beta Android Pie installed), follow this method to install the latest Android Pie update.

Using Method #1, you install an update file on your device easily anytime. Whether you install Android Pie update or downgrading from Android Pie to Oreo. Your data won’t be deleted under this method.

  1. Download the update file from above from the software version column above.
  2. Transfer the update file to your OnePlus 6.
  3. Open the Settings app on your OnePlus 6.
  4. Go to System updates, and then tap the icon in the top right, then select local upgrade.
  5. Tap on the update file you transferred above.
  6. Tap on Immediately upgrade > System upgrade to 100%.
  7. Tap on the Reboot system now.

That’s it.

Method #2: For devices running Android 10 developer preview (DP)

  1. Download the update file from above from the software version column above.
  2. Transfer the update file to your OnePlus 6.
  3. Open the Settings app on your OnePlus 6.
  4. Go to System updates, and then tap the icon in the top right, then select local upgrade.
  5. Tap on the update file you transferred above to select it.
  6. Tap on Immediately upgrade > System upgrade to 100%.
  7. Long press the power button and then tap on Power off to shut down the device.
  8. Reboot to recovery mode. After the screen goes black, wait for 4-5 seconds, and then press and hold Volume down and Power button together until you see anything on the screen.
  9. Perform a factory reset. In recovery mode, move the selection to ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ option, and then click the power button to select it.
  10. Once it is finished, select ‘Reboot system now’ option to restart the OnePlus 6 and boot to Open Beta 1 update that gets you stable Android Pie update from OnePlus.
