Latest news

June 13, 2019: Latest Open Beta software update for the OnePlus 6 brings Digital Wellbeing feature as well as one eagerly-awaited feature from OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, the Fnatic mode. Dubbed as Open Beta 20, the update has already begun rolling out to the users even though we are yet to hear it officially from OnePlus. The update also installs June 2019 security patches.

Elsewhere, those who got their devices into the ongoing Android Q beta testing program now have a second update coming in. The update obviously improves on the initial rollout, but it also has a number of issues it brings, so be sure to check out the details here before joining the party.

Download the update from the table below.

May 15, 2019: The latest May 2019 security update is rolling out to OnePlus 6 as Open Beta 18. In addition to the new security patch, the update also brings more accurate remaining time for completion to the OnePlus Switch, bug fixes, and stability improvements.

It should take a couple or so days before all OnePlus 6 units get the download notification, so don’t freak out if you are still on Open Beta 17.

May 07, 2019: At the I/O 2019, Google has revealed a bigger list of devices that will join the Pixels in trialing Android Q developer preview. On this list is the OnePlus 6, meaning you can already grab the new software and install it on your device, but keep in mind that this isn’t meant for use as a daily driver, but for developers to begin building and testing their apps ahead of the stable release.

OnePlus Android 9 update

How to install an update on OnePlus 6

Here’s how to install an update on the OnePlus 6 handsets. It’s pretty easy, thankfully, and within minutes you will find yourself updating your device like a pro.

Method #1: Standard method

If you have the developer preview version of Android P installed, you need to follow Method #2 below. If you have Android Oreo (or even Open Beta Android Pie installed), follow this method to install the latest Android Pie update.

Using Method #1, you install an update file on your device easily anytime. Whether you install Android Pie update or downgrading from Android Pie to Oreo. Your data won’t be deleted under this method.

  1. Download the update file from above from the software version column above.
  2. Transfer the update file to your OnePlus 6.
  3. Open the Settings app on your OnePlus 6.
  4. Go to System updates, and then tap the icon in the top right, then select local upgrade.
  5. Tap on the update file you transferred above.
  6. Tap on Immediately upgrade > System upgrade to 100%.
  7. Tap on the Reboot system now.

That’s it.

Method #2: For devices running Android Pie developer preview (DP)

  1. Download the update file from above from the software version column above.
  2. Transfer the update file to your OnePlus 6.
  3. Open the Settings app on your OnePlus 6.
  4. Go to System updates, and then tap the icon in the top right, then select local upgrade.
  5. Tap on the update file you transferred above to select it.
  6. Tap on Immediately upgrade > System upgrade to 100%.
  7. Long press the power button and then tap on Power off to shut down the device.
  8. Reboot to recovery mode. After the screen goes black, wait for 4-5 seconds, and then press and hold Volume down and Power button together until you see anything on the screen.
  9. Perform a factory reset. In recovery mode, move the selection to ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ option, and then click the power button to select it.
  10. Once it is finished, select ‘Reboot system now’ option to restart the OnePlus 6 and boot to Open Beta 1 update that gets you stable Android Pie update from OnePlus.
