OnePlus 5T Oreo as OxygenOS Open beta 1 rolling out now

We knew this was coming: A Chinese Oreo beta for the OnePlus 5T was already doing rounds on the web since last few days, and without a doubt, the Oreo has been pending for the device for too long now. Also, OnePlus has a habit of rounding the year off with a great update — last year, they rolled out Nougat for the OnePlus 3/3T on Dec 31.

So, the Android 8.0 update is finally available for the OnePlus 5T users, albeit in beta, and it’s dubbed as OxygenOS open beta 1. It’s the first 8.0 beta for the device, so our maths tells us that we are still 3-4 weeks away from the rollout of stable OTA release for the public.

Being a beta version, you can expect this Oreo build for OnePlus 5T to be rough around the edges. That’s bound to happen even when OnePlus has got a lot of experience with Oreo now, which is already available for the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5. It might not be that smooth and stable as public release builds are, and may have a feature or two broken somewhere, although it could still serve as a decent daily driver.

OnePlus Oreo release news

As you would expect, the OnePlus 5T Oreo packs in the cool features that Google gives you with Oreo, like the picture-in-picture, Autofill, smarter text selection, etc. stuff, but here is the full changelog from the OnePlus.

  • Updated to Android O (8.0)
  • Launcher
    • Optimized the app shortcut style
    • Combine icon options with app shortcuts
    • Now able to upload photos to Shot on OnePlus
  • System
    • Added Picture in Picture
    • Added Auto-Fill
    • Added Smart Text Selection
    • New Quick Settings design
    • Updated Android security patch to December

If you are willing to test this, find our easy installation guide over here to help you download the Oreo for OnePlus 5T and install it all by yourself. Being a beta, it won’t be hitting your device as an OTA (unless you are on a beta build already), and as such, you need to manually install it.
