OnePlus 3 and 3T receive Face Unlock in stable update, May patch too

OnePlus 3T

OnePlus has a new update for the 2016 OnePlus 3 and 3T that you’ll relish installing on your phone. The update comes as OxygenOS 5.0.3 and although an incremental addition, it has some interesting stuff on board.

The most notable addition is the Face Unlock feature that had so far been limited to the Open Beta users. With this update, every OnePlus 3 and 3T user will now be able to use facial recognition for unlocking the phone, a feature that first debuted on the OnePlus 5T and has since found its way to the OnePlus 5, too.

In addition, the update brings the latest Android security patches for the month of May 2018, but that’s not all. Here’s the full changelog:

  • System
    • Updated Android security patch to May 2018
    • Supported Face Unlock
  • Launcher
    • Refined Shelf UI design
    • New design for App shortcuts
    • Supported more options when long pressing an icon
  • Gallery
    • Places: a map view of photos by location
    • Supported sharing photos to Shot-On-OnePlus
    • Added “Recently Deleted” collection
  • File Manager
    • Added “Large files” category
  • Weather
    • Added new widget for Launcher
    • Improved the positioning accuracy
    • Adjust refresh interval for weather information update

The update is rolling out over the air and if it hasn’t arrived on your OnePlus 3 or 3T by now, be sure it’s on the way. This update is based on Android Oreo, which, unfortunately, will be the farthest the two go as far as OS upgrades are concerned. Only last year’s OnePlus 5 and 5T as well as the new kid on the block, OnePlus 6, are eligible for Android P.
