Last year, a Nokia Camera app APK teardown revealed a myriad of devices that HMD Global is planning to unveil this 2018 and among them was the Nokia 9.
So far, we’ve seen several reports regarding this phone, including what has for a long time been presumed to be its model number – TA-1005. However, a recent report claimed that the TA-1005 isn’t the Nokia 9, rather, it’s the Nokia 8 Sirocco.
So, what is this Nokia 8 Sirocco phone all about? Let’s find out.
Nokia 8 Sirocco specs and features
- Snapdragon 835 processor
- 6/8GB RAM | 128GB internal storage
- 12+13MP dual camera at back, 5MP selfie camera
- 3D glass back, IP67 certified
- 5.5-inch LED QUAD HD 18:9 display
- 3250mAh battery
- On-screen buttons
- Rear mounted fingerprint sensor
As you may have guessed, the Nokia 8 Sirocco has something to do with the standard Nokia 8, more so on matters specs and features.
Just like previous rumors had pointed out while presuming that the TA-1005 will be the Nokia 9, the Nokia 8 Sirocco will feature a 3D glass back design with an IP67-certified body that is dust and water resistant. The screen size is expected to be 5.5 inches, a 3D OLED panel with a QHD resolution, but at the moment, it’s still unclear whether it’ll follow the new trend of 18:9 aspect ratio like the rumored Nokia 7 Plus.
On the inside, the Nokia 8 Sirocco will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6/8GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The back of the phone will rock a Carl Zeiss dual 12MP+13MP camera and a fingerprint scanner while the front will get a 5MP shooter for selfies. With the relocation of the scanner, the Sirocco will get on-screen buttons as well as minimal bezels, which point to an 18:9 design.
It’s worth noting that this similar design change happened to the Nokia 6 2018 with respect to the OG Nokia 6, but it still rocks the same 16:9 aspect ratio.
Keeping the Nokia 8 Sirocco alive will be a decent 3250mAh battery unit that is charged via a USB-C port, which will also double as a headphone port. As you would expect, the phone will also support dual-SIM connectivity and run Android Oreo out of the box.
Nokia 8 Sirocco price and release date
- MWC 2018 announcement expected
- Price could be about 599 Euros ($750)
HMD Global will be at the upcoming MWC 2018 event to unveil a bunch of phones. One phone that is guaranteed to show up is the Nokia 6 2018, but this won’t be the only handset at the event.
The Finnish company is also expected to unveil a myriad of other phones, among them the Nokia 7 Plus, successors to the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5, the new Android Go-powered Nokia 1 as well as a 4G variant of the iconic Nokia 3310. Given the lack of a flagship phone on this list, we are adamant that the Nokia 8 Sirocco will take this position as the high-end offering from Nokia at the MWC 2018.
As for the price, we’ll only know when the phone is here, but we don’t expect it to differ a lot from the price of the standard Nokia 8. In short, expect a price tag of about €599.
Do you think it’s wise for HMD to unveil a Snapdragon 835-powered Nokia flagship phone in 2018?
