New Samsung phone (SM-G888N0) gets certfied by WiFi Alliance

If a WiFi Alliance listing is to be believed, Samsung will soon release a new smartphone. A Samsung product with model number SM-G888N0 has received WiFi certification, hinting that Samsung is working its way to launch a new device.

The WiFi listing shows the device running Android Marshmallow 6.0. Other than that, it is silent on all other features of the phone. Going by the model number, all we can surmise is that it is a Korean variant (as ‘N0’ point towards a device meant for Korea release). Now, what the device is exactly is anybody’s guess right now.

A past year’s leak showed a Samsung device with model number SM-G880 appearing on Indian import listing database, Zauba which was thought to be another version of flagship phone Galaxy S7. Based on this, the only logical conclusion is that SM-G888N0 is the Sport edition of this year’s flagship phone Galaxy S8.

But having said that, it is very unlike Sammy to release a Sport edition of a flagship phone in home country while the SM-G888N0 point towards a Korean variant. Again, devices in this series are outdoor variants of flagship smartphones like SM-G860 was Galaxy S5 Sport, SM-G870 was Galaxy S5 Active, SM-G890 was Galaxy S6 Active and SM-G891 was Galaxy S7 Active.

After taking all points on board, it is hard to draw a conclusion as to what the Samsung phone could be. At this juncture, all we can do is wait for more details to pour in to be able to zero in on a name for the listed Samsung device.

  1. I hope its not another one of the J series or anything. Whatever Samsung’s marketing strategy might be with Indian market, it isn’t very bold. They focus on flooding the market with budget devices with low key specifications and barely any software support. I hope that changes

    1. That’s true Ashwin

  2. yeah, I think this is definitely the S8 devices ordered in India!!
