Motorola has in recent times shown glimpses of the company it used to be back in the day with timely software updates for a number of its devices.
For instance, the company published March 2019 security update release notes for the Moto One in February and shortly after, the story was true for the Moto G7 and Moto X4. All this happened before Google published the official bulletin for the Pixels, which is not your usual dose.
While other vendors tend to prioritize premium phones when it comes to timely software updates, it appears Motorola doesn’t subscribe to this school of thought. Instead, the company is now rolling out the latest March 2019 security patch to the budget (and aging) Moto E4 alongside the Moto G6 Play in the U.S.
It’s only earlier this week that the Google Pixels received this same update and it might take another week or so before the likes of Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 get the nod. This alone speaks volumes about the importance Motorola has placed on the budget segment, especially since the same energy hasn’t been reciprocated with respect to the Moto Z series.
Since the company has just published the release notes, it doesn’t necessarily mean the rollout has commenced. Still, we expect owners of the Moto E4 and Moto G6 Play to begin seeing OTA download notifications by the end of this week, although others will have to wait until next week or so since the rollout, as usual, is staggered.
