New Google Photos update adds live video previews

Google Photos has been updated to version 4.20 on Android, which introduces live video preview in the primary “Photos” tab.

The videos in the Photos app now display a white play icon in the top-right corner of thumbnails, with the duration just written beside. Now, thanks to the update, the videos will play automatically, as you scroll through your Google Photos timeline.

As part of the preview, Google Photos will keep playing the entire audio less video, in a loop, until you scroll past it. If there are multiple videos adjacent to one another, Photos will play the videos reverse chronologically.

The active thumbnails are available in both “Month view” and “Comfortable view” as part of the main feed but not in album or search screens. As of now, the feature is only available on Android and not on iOS and web clients.
