For years, Motorola was the best non-Google OEM when software matters came to the table, but since Lenovo stepped in to fill the shoes left by the search giant, things have gotten quite unbearable. On this page, we have details of everything you want to know about the Moto G6’s software updates, news, download links, and the changelogs, among other software-related info.
Moto G6 Android Pie update
- Pie update expected in Q1 2019
- Motorola yet to come with Android Pie update for any device, including Moto Z2 Force
The Moto G6 comes preinstalled with Android Oreo out of the box, sadly, you still get the OG version 8.0. Don’t look forward to an Oreo 8.1 update, but expect an update to Android 9 Pie to arrive somewhere in 2019.
When exactly this update will roll out is still unclear, but if Motorola’s statements are any indicators, it may take longer than usual before the device receives Android Pie. This is despite the presence of Project Treble, a feature that is meant to speed up software updates.
If anything, we can expect Pie to arrive on the Moto G6 beginning early 2019, but we cannot guarantee this will be the case.

In case you were wondering, the Android 8.1 is not available for the Moto G6 handset yet, even though we are talking Android Pie updates now.
And yes, Motorola is not the same company anymore that used to roll out updates swiftly. According to Motorola, those using the Moto G6 will not receive monthly security updates, rather, the company will only be sending out these updates after a period of between 60 and 90 days.
