Update [April 26]: Motorola US has updated the Moto G6 software support page with new Android 9 Pie release notes. While the bit on Android 9 Pie keeps its place from previous similar release notes published in February 2019, the security patch level now is for April 2019, up from February 2019.
Obviously, the initial release notes didn’t materialize to an actual update, but we do hope this time around the U.S. variant of the Moto G6 finally gets the Pie update.
April 04, 2019: Verizon is rolling out March 2019 security patch to the Moto G6 as version ODSS27.104-95-2. The update is still based on Android Oreo, which means the wait is still on for Verizon users. This same update is also available for other U.S. variants alongside bug fixes and stability improvements.
In India and Brazil, those using the Moto G6 already got Pie updates, so it shouldn’t be long before the OS arrives in the U.S.

Motorola is no longer the same company that used to roll out updates swiftly. Apparently, those using the Moto G6 will not receive monthly security updates, rather, the company will only be sending out these updates after a period of between 60 and 90 days.
Moto G6 Android Pie update
- Android 9 Pie is now available in Brazil and India
- Not yet released in the U.S.
- Official U.S. release notes already published
The Moto G6 got the first update to Android 9 Pie in late January 2019 as a soak test in Brazil and a few weeks later, a stable update started rolling out in Brazil and India joined the party thereafter. Motorola U.S. also made an official statement basically confirming the availability of Pie for the G6 in the country, but the rollout has yet to begin.
The update should begin rolling out in the U.S. and other regions in Q2 2019. The Moto G6 Plus already received the Pie update at the end of December 2018 while the Moto G6 Play should join the standard G6 in receiving the Pie update in Q2 2019.
If Motorola is to be believed, the Moto G6, G6 Plus, and G6 Play won’t go past Pie, which is such a shame at a time when the likes of Samsung, Huawei, and even Asus are rolling out two major OS updates to equally budget handsets.
