Motorola is particularly not known for ensuring timely updates to its devices. However, it now seems to be waking up to the competition as more and more OEMs are now showing swiftness in pushing out software updates to their devices.
In the latest news, Motorola is releasing security patches for the month of January to two of its devices, the Moto G6 Play and the Moto E4, in the United States.
The maintenance notes from Motorola’s support domain reveal the updates bring security improvements to both of the smartphones with January 2019 security patch.
Further details regarding what else security enhancements are in store in this update are however not divulged. The update will make way to these devices through over-the-air (OTA) update. Sadly the software version of the updates is not available from the support pages, thus we can’t provide you that for the moment.

For a refresher, the Moto G6 Play launched back in May 2018 in the country runs Android Oreo 8, however, a planned upgrade to Android 9.0 Pie is due. Under the hood, it is driven by Snapdragon 427 SoC coupled with 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB internal storage. Luckily, the Moto G6 Play is fitted with a 4,000mAh battery to sustain the long gaming sessions.
On the other hand, the Moto E4 — one of the best budget phones from Motorola — a model from 2017, runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is backed by a quad-core MediaTek 6737 SoC alongside 2GB RAM and 16GB default storage. The smartphone is kept ticking by a paltry 2,800mAh battery, however.
