Motorola begins rolling out Android Oreo to the Moto G5

Moto G5 Plus

It’s only yesterday that we reported about Android Oreo having begun rolling out to the Moto G5 Plus and the Moto G5S duo in Brazil and while this information came from unofficial sources, Motorola has now made things official, but for the standard Moto G5.

Thanks to an official software solution page, we now know that Motorola has commenced the Moto G5 Oreo update rollout. And no, it’s not Android 8.0, but the newer 8.1, just like what was reported to be rolling out to the other Moto G5 variants.

The release notes further confirm that the update is accompanied by June 2018 security patches. In addition, Moto G5 users will also get new multitasking features, improved data saver, enhanced notification controls, Bluetooth improvements, and a new power menu UI, among other improvements.

The update is rolling out over the air and thus it’ll take time before every Moto G5 user gets the download notification. If you don’t see the notification anytime soon, Motorola recommends trying a manual update via Settings > About phone > System updates > Download and install the update manually.
