Moto Maker enters China: Customize your Motorola device before buying

Consumers in China will now be able to use the Moto Maker services and purchase customized Motorola devices as per an announcement by Lenovo, Motorola’s parent company at its TechWorld event in Beijing today.

The move, which is aimed at boosting sales in China, where the company is facing tough competition from domestic manufacturers such as Xiaomi and One plus will allow users to customize the look and feel of their device before ordering it.

The customization options include choosing the device color along with the material that goes into making it — including the premium wood and leather that’s been so popular in the US lately.

The custom Motorola devices assembled using the material and color of the customer’s choice carry price tags starting from ¥2,799 ($451), while the regular Moto X without any customizations is priced around ¥2,699 ($435) — which means about $16 more for a device that comes in colors and materials of your own choice. Not a bad deal if you ask us!

What’s more, as part of its promotional events Motorola will allow its Chinese customers to take home a brand new Moto G for a price of only ¥999 ($161), while the Moto X Pro — which is Motorola’s China-exclusive version of the Nexus 6 — can be had for ¥3,999 ($645) up until the 2nd of june.

The Moto Maker services for China can be accessed via motomaker.cn.
