:( Marshmallow Dark Theme won’t be available in final release

The Android M developer preview builds of Marshmallow has an interesting feature that lets users change device theme to dark color, alongside the default white theme. This got folks like us excited in hope that Google might actually launch a theme engine or something of that sorts, but of course we were all stupid.

Let alone a theme engine, Google has now confirmed that there won’t be any dark theme on Marshmallow final release. Matterfact, the material dark theme was only present on the first developer preview build of Android M. Subsequent update to the developer preview, version 2 and 3 didn’t had an option to change theme to dark.

We wonder, “Why?”. Everyone loves theming. I’m sure folks over at Google too would love some system-level theming capabilities on Android. And I guess that’s why the Dark theme made it to the first Android M preview build, but then what sort of boringness did the minds at Google hit and they stepped back to the basic stuff. Phew!

For anyone still hoping for a theme engine on stock Android, we share your pain buddy! The day will come, just hang in there!
