In line with Google’s Android Enterprise Recommended Program, LG has confirmed that the G6 will be part of the devices to receive Android 8.1 Oreo update. At the moment, the phone is yet to get an update to Oreo, but beta testing is ongoing in China, with the rollout expected to commence in the near future.
It’s worth noting that the LG G6 will go straight to Android 8.1 as opposed to taking the 8.0 route. In addition to this, being part of the Enterprise Recommended program means that you’ll receive security updates for at least three years, with each update rolling out within 90 days of Google releasing it.
As of April 22, 2017, Sprint is rolling out a new update to LG G6 which goes by software version LS993ZV5. The update deals with an issue where the device would show up as being corrupted. The update also brings the ability to charge your device using any wireless charger. Since this update is sized at around 360MB, it is better to download over WiFi to save on additional data charges.
Update [April 08, 2017]: LG is now pushing out an update to the Korean variant of its flagship. The update which is being rolled out over the air, goes by software version V10I-MAR-21-2017. It is sized at 157MB and brings improvements to Camera performance, HDR10 image quality and enables faster file sharing capabilities too. Other system enhancements result in better call quality and display touch latency too.
Update [April 06, 2017]: It has hardly been a week since build H87208i released and T-Mobile is now seeding a new update. The LG G6 is now receiving software version H87210e as an OTA update. This update, which is sized at around 124MB, installs the March security patch. In addition to that, it also patches up a few bugs and other issues from the previous build.
T-Mobile has already started shipping LG G6 to customers, although the official release is set for April 7th. Today, they updated G6’s support page to reveal the build no. expected to be pre-installed on the device, as software version H87208i.
But. Well, users who already have the G6 are said to be running another build, which is H87208b. So, there exists a build that predates to what T-Mobile says will come pre-installed? Whoa.
Anyway, we think the lucky LG G6 users at T-Mobile who already have the device build H87208b as pre-installed, are well set to receive an update in near future. April 7? Well, our guess is as good as yours.
To be able to update your software to the most current version, the carrier recommends your G6 device to meet the following requirements: at least 50% battery life, Wi-Fi data connection and free space on internal storage.
Meanwhile, LG G6 is slated to go on sale in Canada today itself via Bell carrier. In the US, T-Mobile commenced shipping G6 to customers on March 24th, two weeks ahead of the smartphone’s April 7th official release.
