Uh-oh! LG G6 Oreo release is planned for February 2018

lg g6 Oreo release rumor

With the earlier releases of Android OS, Marshmallow and Nougat, LG was the first non-Google OEM to release the update for its flagship product of the moment, the LG G4 and LG G5. Based on that, when Oreo was announced by Google you’d be forgiven to think that G6 would easily be the among the first, if not the first, to receive Android 8.0 update besides the Pixel and Nexus sets. And here we are, in a touching distance to New Year, and LG has only slowly prepared an update for its V30 yet (for Korea only, BTW!). And that’s not the worst, they look to have marked the G6’s Oreo for February 2018 in their Android 8.0 release roadmap.

A bad time to be buying an LG flagship? After all, the super-quick updates were their forte, but they look like not caring about it at all now. Does the fact that LG G6 runs on Snapdragon 821 chipset has to do anything with this, so much that even LG actually considers the V30 as their only true 2017 flagship?

Anyway, the news comes from a report from XDA user Windforce0511, who it seems asked the LG reps about G6’s Android 8.0, only to be told that the Android 8.0 OTA is planned for February 2018 for the model no. H870S, a variant meant for Middle-East.

Could the LG G6 models at Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon Wireless be given the taste of Oreo by the end of January? Well, that’s daydreaming really. Given that they are yet to hit the release switch for V30’s Android 8.0 in the stateside, the G6, at best, could be expected to receive Oreo only by the end of February.
