LG G5 SE (H840) for the European market gets official bootloader unlock support

If you’re sporting an LG G5 SE smartphone, you can now officially unlock the bootloader, says LG. The device has been added to the list of supported devices on LG’s official developer website. The model number for this device is H840.

The LG G5 SE is a lower spec’d variant of the LG G5. It looks the same from the outside, and most of the features are still the same. However, the SE variant has a Snapdragon 652 and 3GB of RAM, instead of SD820 and 4GB RAM as on the standard G5.

Last month, LG added the U.S unlocked variant of the LG G5 to the list of supported devices for bootloader unlock. The RS988 model of the LG G5 to be exact. The H850 variant is also supported.

Unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty of the device. Therefore, it is best that you wait till the device is out of warranty before meddling with the bootloader. There are several benefits to it, but it can also be risky if you don’t know what you’re doing.

  1. Unlocking the bootloader and rotting and flashing is what makes android android. Happy to see companies embracing that and not being “apple-y”.

    1. I agree, if you purchase a device you should be aloud to do anything you want with it.

    2. Apple is perfect for people who aren’t interested in technology, It’s idiot proof.

    3. Yes. Agreed. I guess we have to appreciate it for that. For the technologically uninitiated, iPhone is an elegant choice. 🙂

    4. Yes, I know right. That’s why most of the developers flock towards the android platform. 🙂

    5. Whats funny is that apple claimed that the IOS was Open source 😐 in their website. This was a while ago and not sure if they still claim the same tho 😐

    6. Exactly .It’s got a very simple UI and moreover people prefer to buy an apple basically as it is more of a status symbol than a phone
