Lenovo P2: Install the Android 7.1.2 update thanks to MIUI ROM port

Ever since Lenovo went ahead and purchased the smartphone division of Motorola, the brand has only increased in popularity. Since then, the Chinese company has taken a step back from creating Lenovo-branded Android devices, with the exception of a few. The Lenovo P2 is one such exception and a popular one at that, so much so that developers in the Android community have gone around to port a version of MIUI 9 ROM to it.

Step 1: Flash TRWP recovery

In order to flash the MIUI 9 ROM port to the Lenovo P2 and bring it up to Android 7.1.2 Nougat, you need TWRP custom recovery installed and running first. We’ve sifted through the XDA Forums to find you the latest guide on how to do it, so simply follow the instructions in the link below to get TWRP recovery on your Lenovo P2.

1. Make sure you have unlocked bootloader your Lenovo P2.
2. Download the TWRP recovery in .img file format.
3. Install TWRP recovery using this guide.

Step 2: Flash MIUI ROM based on Android 7.1.2 on Lenovo P2

Now that you have TRWP set up on your Lenovo P2, the final step in the process is flashing the firmware using the custom recovery (Download Here).

1. Download the MIUI ROM for your Lenovo P2 from here. (Latest download here.)
2. Transfer the ROM file to the internal storage of the Lenovo P2.
3. Turn off the device.
4. Boot into recovery mode to access TWRP. For this, press and hold down the Power and Volume Down buttons until you feel the device vibrate, then you can let go the Power button but keep holding down the Volume Down button until the TWRP recovery menu boots up.
5. Press the Install button on the TWRP menu screen and navigate your way to where you have the .img firmware file saved.
6. Swipe to reboot the Lenovo P2 and wait as it boots up with the newly ported firmware.

Issues with the ROM: As of April 06, 2018, the developer has stated that the fingerprint scanner, as well as fingerprint gestures, are not supported on this ported ROM. Moreover, there also seems to be a bug that affects the auto brightness feature of the screen, so keep these in mind as you prepare to flash the firmware.
