Leaked firmware reveals possible LG V40 ThinQ specs

Earlier this year, LG announced that it will be taking things a little slower in the smartphone industry, but going by recent happenings, it’s quite the opposite. Besides revamping the LG V30 with a ThinQ variant, the Korean company has also launched two more flagship phones – LG G7 ThinQ and LG V35 ThinQ, but it won’t be stopping there.

A few weeks from now, we expect to see the new LG V40 ThinQ come to life and while we’ve already come across a few leaks and rumors about the phone, the latest comes from a leaked firmware that was obtained by XDA Developers.

There’s no mention of the LG V40 ThinQ anywhere in the leaked firmware, but there are bits of information present that suggest this could be the device in question. First is the codename judypn that is quite similar to codenames used for the LG G7 (judyln) and V35 (judyp). Second on the list is the presence of a POLED display screen, something we’ve gotten used to seeing on the V series and not the G series (LG G7 has an LCD panel), however, what seemed to be a reservation for the G series – the notch – is making its way to the V series.

Like the LG G7, the LG V40 is expected to ship with a dedicated Google Assistant button, something the firmware confirms is present on the device. Also, XDA reveals that the model numbers in the leaked firmware add even more weight to the argument that judypn is the upcoming LG V40. The device is said to come with model numbers LM-V400N, LM-V405N, and LM-V409N – numbers that closely resemble those used on the LG V35 (LM-V350 and LM-V350N). As for the variants, the leaked firmware has the international, Korean and American (Sprint and Verizon Wireless) variants.

Previous reports have suggested that the LG V40 will be codenamed storm and will ship with up to five lenses – three on the back and two on the front. However, the firmware suggests that judypn will come with two on the back and one on the front, but then again, nothing has been finalized here so take this report with a pinch of salt.
