Japan gets Amazon Kindle Fire HD, new Kindle Fire and Kindle Store

Amazon has recently announced that the Kindle Fire HD is its new best selling product, and has now finally set its sights towards the east. Amazon announced earlier today, that the Kindle store is coming to Japan starting October 25th, giving Japanese customers access to more than 50,000 Japanese-language Kindle books, including 10,000 free Japanese titles and an additional 15,000 manga titles.

In addition, Amazon has also announced the launch of the Kindle Fire HD and the all-new Kindle Fire for Japan, and customers can start placing pre-orders starting today. The new Kindle Fire would be priced at ¥12,800 ($160) and the 16GB Kindle Fire HD at ¥15,800 ($198). Customers can still go ahead access the Kindle store and purchase books using their Android or iOS devices, once the store is live tomorrow, and need not wait for their Amazon devices. Both the Kindle Fire and the Kindle Fire HD will start shipping in mid-November.

Amazon’s Japan foray was originally scheduled for April 2012, but was delayed for reasons best known to Amazon. During that period, Japanese e-commerce major Rakuten launched its Kobo bookstore, along with a Kobo Touch eReader. With its feet firmly in the Japanese door now, Amazon would be looking to rack up the tally on Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD sales now.
