HTC U12+ update: Android Pie released in the US; Android Q may not be in the pipeline

HTC is no longer most people’s go-to vendor when looking for the best smartphones out there, but this doesn’t take away any of the greatness of the HTC U12+, the company’s latest flagship handset.

On this page, you’ll find all that you need to know about the HTC U12+ software news, the latest updates, changelogs and even release dates for the said software. Whether it’s the major OS upgrades or the minor, monthly security patches, we have you covered.

HTC U12+ Android Pie update

  • First released in Taiwan on July 8th, 2019
  • Released in the US on August 21, 2019; not available in Europe right now

August 21, 2019: The update for HTC U12 in the US arrives as software version 2.51.617.1, weighing in 954MB. The update is also available in Taiwan but if you are in Europe, Asia or anywhere outside the US, you are still out of luck. However, we expect the Pie update to become available all around the world pretty soon.

HTC U12+ Android Q update

HTC has been clearly very late in rolling out Android Pie but given the company’s current predicament, it’s not surprising. What also won’t be surprising will be the absence of Android Q update (features list) for the U12, both given company’s current fortunes and the time and effort it took them to prepare Pie update, which has arrived only when we are expecting Google to drop Q anytime now.

The U12’s competitor in Galaxy S9 received the Android Pie update back in January, and as of now, all the flagship devices from the last year have received the Pie update. So, that makes HTC the last flagship to get Pie, and that doesn’t sound good. What’s worse is that is not surprising anymore.
