HTC U release date set for May 16

LG followed by Samsung and Xiaomi have already played their flagship cards taking the competition one notch higher. The LG G6, the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Xiaomi Mi 6 have somewhat successfully brought a breath of fresh air in the stagnant smartphone market, be in terms of design or specsheet. But we are still looking forward to find out what would HTC do to its 2017 flagship device which is allegedly known as HTC U or HTC Ocean. To our delight, the wait will soon be over next month with the official release of HTC U.

HTC, in a video teaser, has hinted at the launch of HTC U on May 16th, which is reportedly its this year’s flagship device. HTC has uploaded a 5-second video on its Twitter handle with the tagline “Squeeze for the Brilliant U” suggesting the rumored pressure-sensitive frame HTC U will come with. In fact, the video shows a hand giving the phone a little squeeze.

HTC U has been under the rumor radar for quite some time now, albeit known by HTC Ocean. The most noteworthy feature which HTC has brought to it, and possible this will be its USP against the likes of S8 and G6, is a very unique pressure sensing side bezels. Pressing on the bezel would let you perform certain actions, such as take a picture, launch apps, copy/paste text etc.

Also, past leaked images of HTC U show an edge-to-edge bezel-less phone with slight bezels of proportionate size embracing the top and bottom of the smartphone. The design also hints at touch sensitive bezels which might have access to the power and volume control and even the fingerprint scanner.

Also, noteworthy are the hardware and software specifications with top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with the company’s Sense 9 UI on top. It is touted to sport a 5.5-inch WQHD (1400 x 2560 pixels) display, a 12MP ultrapixel rear camera, and a 16MP front shooter, a 4GB or 6GB RAM.

With all the above mentioned specifications, HTC U truly justifies its flagship status and looks ready to give other devices of its category a tough time.

  1. looks like it has a new squeeze gesture for the on screen controls!! buy far this looks a promising device with great flagship grade specs, I just hope it won’t turn out like a big disappointment or poor use of space, like the U-series phones earlier with more than expected price tag for the specs…

  2. I’m not sure about HTC its build quality isn’t sturdy and breaks off easily but it never hesitates to please with its looks 😀

  3. Everything about this phone so far seems amazing. Great specs and display, their cameras have been great recently and the HTC 10 was built like a tank. Sturdy and strong. I hope it follows the 10’s sturdiness rather than the U ultra’s design. And the pressure sensitive bezels seems to be HTC’s hand at innovation and I honestly like it. Better than swaying.
