Finally, after weeks upon weeks of leaked info and images, the One X+ has been made official by HTC. As expected, the processor is a faster 1.7GHz Tegra 3 quad-core processor and the device comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.
The One X+ sports quite a few changes over the One X, despite being the same in size as well as having the same 720p SLCD2 display. The battery has been upgraded to a 2100 mAh one, while there’s now an option of a 64GB storage variant. The front camera has been upgraded to 1.6 megapixel from 1.3 and is now able to use HTC’s ImageChip for image processing. HTC has also added an audio amplifier for improved sound quality via the loudspeaker (but not the headphones, which will still use Beats Audio).
According to The Verge, HTC has also made some changes on the software side for Android 4.1, mostly related to photography. The Gallery will now act as a hub for all installed apps that manage photos. Also, if the screen is locked while the camera app is open, pressing the power button again will go straight back to the camera, skipping the lock screen, which is something I’d like to see more manufacturers adopt.
As usual, the One X+ for the US and other LTE-enabled markets will have 4G LTE connectivity onboard. The One X+ will be available in only the matte black color, and will start shipping in Europe and North Asia this month, South Asia in November, while the US versions will be announced later on. There’s no info available on the pricing, but expect that to come out soon.
Anyone buying the HTC One X+? The specs are sound, the software is the latest, so I’m guessing the answer is yes for many.
