The US unlocked variant of HTC 10 is receiving an OTA update with software number 2.51.617.21. The update brings Android security patch level to September 1, 2017, which should also bring with it a fix for the recently discovered BlueBorne vulnerability.
This is an important security update and we recommend you to install this at all costs since it fixes the BlueBorne vulnerability on your Android device. For the less initiated, BlueBorne is a security vulnerability which lets a hacker gain full access to your Bluetooth enabled device just by getting in range of its Bluetooth connectivity. It doesn’t even require a paired Bluetooth connection to access your device.
The HTC 10 update is rolling out over-the-air as we speak, if you haven’t received the update notification yet, head over to your device Settings and force check for an OTA update manually.
On a side note, the HTC 10 Oreo update should also be coming December end or early in January next year. HTC has already announced that Android 8.0 Oreo will be coming to HTC U11, HTC U Ultra and HTC 10 devices worldover. The company hasn’t officially confirmed the full Android 8.0 update list yet, but it shouldn’t be long before it does. And beta/test builds of Android 8.0 Oreo should be coming in soon for the mentioned devices.
