How to set location based reminders on Google Home

From helping you find what song is playing on the radio to giving you a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a deep-dish pizza, there’s nothing that your Google Home can’t do. Well thanks to Google’s attempt to perfecting its smart home assistant, Google Home can now be the companion of a forgetful mind.

The latest feature of Google Home now allows you to set reminders based on your location, which is then conveyed through Google Assistant. For instance, if you set a reminder to “get some detergent from Walmart”, your phone will remind you to do so when Google recognizes that your current location is at a Walmart store.

The feature has existed on the Google Assistant platform for mobile devices, but is now finally being rolled out to Google Home users as well. To create a reminder based on a location that is more accurate, here’s an example of what you can do.

  • Head over to Google Maps and create a label for your regularly visited place, like your favorite grocery store.
  • Now, when back home, or at the office, where you have the Google home, say the command “Hey Google, remind me to get detergent from the grocery store”. Google Home will recognize the location since you’ve already created a label for your favorite grocery store.
  • Once you reach the location of the grocery store, Google will recognize your current location and remind you to “get detergent”.
