How to reset OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro

There could be many reasons why you want to reset your OnePlus 7 Pro (or OnePlus 7).

Whether you are experiencing issues with the device, or you are looking to sell the device and thus wanna clean up the device first, this page covers all the best methods to easily reset your OnePlus 7 Pro.

Note: We are talking about the factory reset here, also called the hard reset. If you are looking for a method to perform a soft reset (restart) on your device, then do this: Hold the power button long enough to bring a pop-up menu, and then tap on Restart. If the screen is not responding, you use force restart your OnePlus 7 Pro.

Method 1: Reset the OnePlus 7/7 Pro via the Settings app

Note: Make sure you have backed up all the data you need to, including photos, videos, documents, other files, app settings and app data, etc. before doing this as this will delete everything on the phone.

Executing a reset from the phone’s settings is very easy. You can complete a reset in just 10 minutes.

  1. Go to your Settings app.
  2. In your settings panel, scroll down till you find System.
  3. You will find Reset options here. Tap on Erase all data (factory reset) and select the RESET PHONE option.
  4. Unless you have backed up all your data, don’t select the internal storage checkbox.
  5. Tap ERASE EVERYTHING button. The device would restart automatically after performing the factory reset.

Method 2: Reset the OnePlus 7/ 7 Pro using recovery mode

Note: Make sure you have backed up all the data you need to, including photos, videos, documents, other files, app settings and app data, etc. before doing this as this will delete everything on the phone.

If you suspect that your phone is being attacked by malware, we suggest that you using recovery mode to rest your phone:

  1. Turn off your phone’s power normally.
  2. Press and hold the Volume up + Power buttons simultaneously. Don’t release them until you see the OnePlus logo on the screen.
  3. You will soon enter recovery mode. It would look similar to this.
  4. You will see a Wipe data/Factory reset option. move the highlight to this option using the volume buttons and select it using the power button.
  5. The phone will begin to reset after you select the Wipe data option above. It will be back to the home screen of the recovery when the device is reset.
  6. Select the Reboot system now option to restart the device.
