You may claim to be a special snowflake who doesn’t need human contact to stay alive, but even the most anti-social people crave the drug that is social media. One such social media network that the young generation is obsessed with seems to be Snapchat, the media-based social platform that helps you connect with your loved ones, send self-destructing images and videos, and create Snapstreaks that can last forever.
For those who haven’t addicted to Snapchat already, the app creates a Snapstreak when two users share Snaps for 3 consecutive days, highlighting it with a fire Emoji next to the name of the user, along with the number of Snapstreaks. In order to keep the Snapstreak alive, you need to make sure that you send out a personal Snap to the users within 24 hours every day. If you’re trying to keep that fire alive between you and the other user, here’s how you can make sure that your Snapstreak never fizzles out.

1. Get that lost Snapstreak back
While you can always move past a lost Snapstreak if you had been doing it only for a few days, but what about those 200+ Snapstreaks you had going on with your buddy the whole year? While Snapchat is pretty clear about the fact that you need to send and receive a snap within 24 hours to keep the Streak alive, there can always be exceptions. If your Snapstreaks disappeared due to a technical issue with the app or network connectivity, Snapchat will review your user request and might even restore those lost Snapstreaks.
- Head over to the Snapchat Support page from the Snapchat app Settings or the browser.
- Tap on My Snapstreaks have disappeared and press YES on the “Need help with something else” window.
- Fill in the entire form with details such as your Username, Friend’s username, How long was your Snapstreak before it expired and more.
2. Set a time cycle for your Snapstreak
While you may be diligent and dedicated to sending out Snaps every day, the receiver of your Snaps is 50% responsible for keeping a Streak alive. Rather than sending out Snaps at any random time, create a time cycle for when you know the recipient will be available to respond to your Snaps and keep the fire Emoji alive next to your icon.
For instance, you can decide to keep either a “Good Morning” or a “Good Night” Snap cycle, based on when they’re usually digging through the daily Snaps. This way you can not only make sure that every time you remember to send out a daily Snap, but can also expect a Snap in return based on when they’re available to respond.

3. Bring the Snapstreaks to the top of the list
While Snapchat comes with a built-in feature to bring your “Best Friends” (users you Snap most regularly with) to the top, you might need some extra help to remember to keep that Snapstreak alive if you have a handful of them going on. The easiest way you can do this is by editing the name of users and adding a few extra “AAA” to make sure they always show up on the top.
- Open the Snapchat app and press and hold the user window that you’d like to change the name of.
- On the pop-up screen, tap on the Settings icon and select Edit Name.
- Add a few “AAA” in front of the name and hit the Save.
The user window for that specific person will now always show up at the top, so you’ll be reminded to keep your Snapstreak alive all the time.
4. Never forget the hourglass
If you haven’t been using Snapstreaks long enough, you might be surprised to notice a tiny hourglass Emoji appear next to your Snapstreak number. This is a notification from Snapchat to alert you that more than 20 hours have passed since your last Snap and the Snapstreak is coming to an end soon.

Every time You have roughly around 4 hours to respond once the hourglass appears, although Snapchat has never revealed the exact duration. The app never sends out notifications to alert you of an ending Snapstreak, so make sure you keep an eye out for that hourglass Emoji.
