How to update your Galaxy S8 to Android 8.0 Oreo now

Galaxy Note 8 Oreo OTA force grab

The Oreo update is now available officially for both the Exynos and Snapdragon variants of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. In the case of Snapdragon processor-powered Galaxy S8, which is sold in the US, only the Verizon model has received the Android 8.0 OTA so far. However, using this guide below you would be able to install Oreo update on any other model of the Galaxy S8 too, including those at T-Mobile, Sprint, and even AT&T.

To be able to install Oreo update on Galaxy S8 units from T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, you need to download and install the latest Nougat update (BRB1), and then install the Oreo OTA update zip file provided below via ADB. It’s simple enough, as you will soon find out.

How to update your Galaxy S8 to Android 8.0 Oreo

Below is the Oreo installation guide for the US Galaxy S8 and S8+ handsets (SM-G950U and SM-G955U) for which an Oreo firmware is now available at the moment. For S8 handsets in Asia and Europe, the Oreo firmware is already available, hence users of these models, SM-G950F/FD and SM-G955F/FD, should download and install the Android 8.0 update from our firmware pages: Galaxy S8 Oreo firmware | Galaxy S8 Plus Oreo firmware.

With that out of the way, let’s see how to install Oreo on Galaxy S8 and S8+ from T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, and even Verizon.

  1. Download the required Nougat firmware and Oreo OTA files for your device:
    1. Galaxy S8 (SM-G950U)
      1. Nougat firmware version BRB1
      2. Oreo OTA version U2CRB9
    2. Galaxy S8 Plus (SM-G955U)
      1. Nougat firmware version BRB1
      2. Oreo OTA version U2CRB9
  2. Now, using our guide for firmware installation on Samsung devices, install the BRB1 update on your Galaxy S8 (or S8+). When installed, set up the device as usual.
With your Galaxy S8/S8+ running BRB1 update, now is the time to install Android Oreo OTA, that comes as version CRB9. Let’s see how.
  3. Well, use our guide on How to install OTA update manually using ADB Sideload method, and install the Oreo OTA file.

That’s it. When done, your device would be running Android Oreo.

Do let us know whether you are able to install the Android 8.0 update on your Galaxy S8/S8+ using the method above? All the best!
