How to install Android P beta on Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S

Mi MIX 2s

Google launched the first developer preview of Android P back in March and at the I/O 2018, the search giant published the first public beta of the OS alongside the second developer preview.

Unlike before, Android P beta is no longer limited to Google Pixels. Thanks to Project Treble, it’s now possible for other non-Google users to enjoy the beta version of Android P on their devices – and one such group is the one using the latest Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S.

In fact, we already knew the Mi Mix 2S was set to receive Android P beta thanks to a leaked firmware coupled with a premature announcement of the beta program in MIUI forums earlier this month. Well, it’s now official and we even have a short guide on how to get your Mi Mix 2S into the program.

Xiaomi, like other OEMs, rolls out OTA updates to its devices whenever there’s new software, however, in the latest case of Android P beta with respect to the Mi Mix 2S, things are a little bit different, although not completely new to a good number of Xiaomi fans.

How to install:

  1. First, make sure you have created a backup of your files because installing Android P beta will erase every file stored on your Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S handset
  2. When done, grab the Mi Mix 2S Android P beta build via the link below

  1. Using the fastboot method, a process we’ve detailed here, opt into the new Android P beta and that’s it!

At the moment, whatever version of Android P that is available for use isn’t stable and fit for daily use. There are some issues you may encounter – issues that may make your life using the device frustrating. As a result, it’s better to install this OS on your Mi Mix 2S if it’s not going to be your daily driver, otherwise, you’ll have to deal with issues like:

  1. Play music keeps stopping when clicking Music library
  2. No response when editing video in Photos
  3. UI issues for landscape mode
  4. Phone keeps hanging when choosing Voicemail
  5. The voice search function crashes in Setting
  6. Unable to edit local video
  7. No internet showed in the notification bar

Xiaomi hasn’t indicated whether it has plans to add the likes of Mi Mix 2 or even the Mi 6 to the program, but looking at what the OEM has been doing in recent times, it’s likely to add more devices to the P beta program. You can keep an eye on the company’s developer preview page for news on this matter as well as updates to the Mi Mix 2S beta program.

But why the hassle when we can keep an eye on the same for you? Well, stay tuned!
