HMD joins Android One with Nokia 7 Plus, images leaked alongside Nokia 1

HMD Global will be attending the MWC 2018 event that kicks off in less than two weeks.

We know that the event will be used to unveil several Nokia phones, including the second-generation Nokia 6, which is already selling in China. As the main event draws closer, more details of what HMD is planning have just popped up, giving us an early look at the Nokia 1 and Nokia 7 Plus, two phones that will be accompanying the Nokia 6 2018 at the event.

It’s not the first time we’ve come across the Nokia 1 and Nokia 7 Plus, but it’s the first time we are coming across their images and some finer details, especially about the latter. According to Evan Blass, the Nokia 7 Plus will be the first HMD device to join the Android One program.

So far, Xiaomi’s Mi A1 is considered one of the best, if not the best, handset to have graced the Android One program. Given what we’ve heard about the Nokia 7 Plus, it’s easily set to topple the Mi A1. In the leaked images, the phone boasts a Carl Zeiss-powered dual-lens camera on the back and a fingerprint scanner.

Whether this is the recently-leaked Nokia 8 Sirocco is hard to tell, but looking at the front panel, the Nokia 7 Plus has thinner bezels than the standard Nokia 7. Although not confirmed, we do believe it’ll get a 6-inch 18:9 display panel.

On the inside, we’ve heard talk of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, 4GB RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo, which we’ve now learned will be based on Android One.

It’s worth noting that HMD’s take on Android is near stock. With this move, it shows the company’s continued commitment towards becoming the go-to alternative for those who want fast software updates but can’t afford the pricey Google Pixels.

And then there’s the Nokia 1. We know that this will also be another first for HMD, where it’s widely expected to come with Android Oreo Go edition running the show. Even though it’s widely expected to rock the same hardware specs as the Nokia 2, the leaked images of the Nokia 1 show a different design that reminds me of the Galaxy S3.

Unlike the Nokia 7 Plus, you get a single-lens camera on the back and there’s no fingerprint scanner as well. From the look of things, it’s likely to come with a smaller screen size – smaller than the 5-inch HD panel used on the Nokia 2.

Of course, it’s only a week and a half before we find out the exact details of these two phones and other stuff that HMD is lining up.
