Google testing Google Play Pass subscription service

On March 25, 2019, Apple announced a video game subscription service called Apple Arcade. The service, when it goes live, will allow users to download and install a bunch of premium apps without shelling out their hard-earned money on each app separately.

As expected, Apple’s biggest rival, Google, too, isn’t far behind and has already started testing its Google Play subscription service — Google Play Pass.

From the company’s standpoint, it seems like a bit of gamble, as Android users aren’t nearly as generous as iOS users when it comes to paying for premium apps on the Play Store. But maybe this will test their resolve if it’s enticing enough. And those who do will be happy to see the service being launched by Google. A competitively priced product could work well for a section of users.

Pricing

  • Rumored to be $4.99 per month

As confirmed by a user, the Play Pass will cost you $4.99/month, which wouldn’t seem like much to app enthusiasts. The info page clarifies the services you’d get when you subscribe.

Explore a curated catalog spanning puzzle games to premium music apps and everything in between. From action hits to puzzles and fitness trackers, with Google Play Pass you unlock access to hundreds of premium apps and games without ads, download fees or in-app purchases.

A Google spokesperson has also confirmed that the company is indeed testing the Play Pass, refining it as much as possible before rolling it out globally. Google is yet to confirm the launch date of the subscription service, but we don’t believe they’d take too much time to make an official announcement.

Benefits

  • No need to pay for the apps and games covered under Play Pass
  • No in-app purchases required either
  • No Ads
  • Unlimited access to apps you download (as long as you have Play Pass subscription)

All of the above already has us drolling, what about you?

Release date

  • Launch date not available

There is not date being rumored for the launch of Google Pass. once we get wind of it, we will be sure to share it right here.

If you ever hesitated to spend on a premium app and games, then the Play Pass represents a perfect solution to that (as long as the said app/game is covered under Play Pass). The ‘What if I don’t like it‘ part is what makes most users to not pay for a premium app and game, but this is where subscription service helps.

So, what are your thoughts on Google Play Pass?
