The Google Pixel and the Pixel XL will continue receiving guaranteed Android software updates till October 2018, confirmed Google. These devices would also receive Android security updates till October 2019.
This isn’t really surprising though, as Google has had a similar update schedule for older Nexus devices. Google released the Pixel and Pixel XL in October last year, which is why they will only received two years of Android software updates.
Google posted this information on their Android support page. One thing to notice though, is that Google says guaranteed updates. This means that if they wanted, they could provide the latest Android software update for the Pixel devices in October 2019 as well.
This means that Pixel users will get the next version of Android as well. The latest Android O preview is already available for Pixel and Pixel XL, and features several new improvements.

That’s really good news.Most phones don’t get any updates after two years but this seems different as they receive atleast security updates and maybe even an OS upgrade 😀 First time I’m seeing a manufacturer announce how long their support will last in advance,something I think all manufacturers should adapt so that people can know how long there is before the phone they buy gets obsolete
This has been Google’s standard software updates policy to support nexus devices for 2 years with software updates and 3 years with security. It’s happy to see the same being implemented with the pixel and pixel XL.
As far as i have noticed, the software updates come with every major update and minor bug fixes and the security patches come every month or at the most two months.
One more huge perk with own phones by Google is that if you wish, you can be a part of the developer preview program and sign up for the same. You’ll get beta updates of the new Android software months before it’s official release, though it will be in testing stages and might be buggy.
As far as android O goes, beta updates aren’t out yet but the first developer preview is indeed out and has to be manually flashed on nexus or pixel devices if one wishes to use them.
As amazing as that is, I’d not recommend anyone to flash it on their primary phones yet since it’s very buggy and incomplete and not even a beta software yet.
now that’s a news of relief for the pixel users or the future pixel phone buyers, now that they made it official u just don’t have to worry about when will u receive update of the next android version or will u ever receive it… now this is one more reason to buy Google phones over any other android devices in the smartphone market!!
