Google launched the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL just a month ago and now, we’re seeing rumors of a new Pixel device, however, it’s not the Pixel 4. The rumors and leaks are about a slightly budget Pixel device which could possibly be the Pixel 3 Lite.
This Pixel 3 Lite leak is from a Russian tech blog Rozetked which has leaked a bunch of images of a device which is believed to be the Google Pixel 3 Lite. The device seems to look more like the Pixel 3 rather than the Pixel 3 XL since there’s no huge notch on the top which can be a bonus for some.
The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL aren’t really doing well in most countries given the high price. The rumors for a budget Pixel device have been going around since the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL hit the market and now we finally have some kind of proof that the device could be launched very soon.
Let’s take a look at the Pixel 3 Lite and see whether or not the device should be on your radar.

- Get the Pixel 3 Night Sight feature on your Android device
Since the Pixel 3 Lite is probably going to be a cheaper device than the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, we don’t expect the device to come with the best specs either — which is just the case here. The device features a 5.56-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2220 × 1080.
The rumor claims that the Pixel 3 Lite would come with the Snapdragon 670 chipset, which is a pretty powerful chipset in its own rights alongside 4GB of RAM and 32GB non-expandable storage. These days 32GB onboard storage seems to be on the lower side and we aren’t yet sure if there would be a 64GB model or not but we do expect a 128gigs model.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 devices are most known for their amazing cameras since Google’s magical software tricks which make almost every image taken from the Pixel 2 or Pixel 3 absolutely amazing using just one lens. The optics on the Pixel 3 Lite in terms of hardware is fairly basic with a 12 MP rear shooter paired up with an 8 MP front-facing camera.
- Snapdragon 670 processor
- 12MP rear camera
- 8MP front-facing camera
- 5.56-inch IPS LCD display (2220 × 1080 pixels resolution)
- 2915mAh battery
- 4GB RAM
- 32GB Non-Expandable storage
- Android 9 Pie
- 3.5mm headphone jack
Pixel 3 Lite features
There isn’t much information available on all the features of the device yet, however, since the device is a Pixel device we expect to see stock Android 9 Pie just like on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
The Pixel 3 Lite would most certainly feature Digital Wellbeing and also have Google’s amazing camera application. The body of the device resembles the Pixel 3 as we mentioned earlier and has fairly thick bezels towards the top and bottom of the screen.
What is interesting is that the Pixel 3 Lite has an actual 3.5mm headphone jack which is great news for all those who still aren’t willing to let go of their wired headphones. The device also loses out on the dual front-firing speakers and settles for a single speaker in the bottom chin of the device.
The Pixel 3 Lite is ditching the glass and aluminum build for a plastic body. We’ve seen devices with plastic body’s recently such as the POCO F1 which allows the device to be priced slightly cheaper.
Price and release date
- Global launch date unknown (Q1 expected)
- Price expected around $400-500
The Pixel 3 Lite is expected to be launched at a price of around USD 400-500 which puts it squarely in competition with the likes of the OnePlus 6T and the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro both of which pack in better hardware than the Pixel 3 Lite.
The device is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2019, however, this isn’t confirmed. The Pixel 3 Lite seems to be a device aimed at those who want to have the Pixel experience with stock Android, quick updates, and no bloatware on their device without having to break their bank to own the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL.
In a market where great devices are becoming cheaper, we’re unsure how the Pixel 3 Lite would keep up to the competition based on the specifications, however, knowing Google we have our fingers crossed.
The Russian blog Rozetked that leaked the Pixel 3 Lite is the same blog that first leaked the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in a hands-on video. This makes us almost certain that the Pixel 3 Lite is absolutely real and is coming early next year and definitely worth waiting for if you’re planning to buy a mid-range smartphone next year.
