Are you experiencing light bleeding from the edge of the Galaxy S9?

All the way back in 2014, Samsung commercialized its curved edge display with the release of the Galaxy Note Edge. The company then doubled-down on this technology with the S6 Edge, and today with the Galaxy S9 and S9+, the Infinity Edge display with an 18:9 aspect ratio has become a design standard.

While the curved AMOLED display on both sides does offer an immersive visual experience, it is not without flaws. One such flaw is being noticed by users on the Galaxy S9 and S9+, where light seems to bleed out from the edges of the display on some devices. The issue isn’t entirely new and has been previously detected in the Galaxy Note 8 as well.

Is it a physical defect?

Due to the nature of the curved edge of the display, Samsung considers it “natural” that you would notice some light bleeding due to the reflection caused by the curved glass. However, there have also been reports of severe light bleeding issues, which shows that the screen is delaminating from the front glass.

In such severe cases, you can reach out to Samsung or the network carrier you purchased your device from and get yourself a replacement. The issue has not been reported on all of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices, but you can stay on a lookout to see if your device also suffers from light bleeding from the edge.

  1. My Note 8 has SEVERE light bleed. The entire right side is lit up. It’s so bad I can’t even use the phone without a case. Ever. This is pathetic for a thousand dollar phone. I tried reaching out to Samsung and they said there’s nothing they can do about it. Which is why I will never buy another Samsung device unless they start using flat displays.
