Google recently started rolling out Android 9 Pie update to the Pixels and on the very day, Essential’s PH-1 also picked up the new OS. HMD Global’s Nokia 7 Plus is expected to receive the update this September and in the coming weeks, more devices will be joining the party. But no, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge won’t be part of this party.
If we are lucky, Android 9 Pie update will first arrive on a Samsung device in early January 2019, but of course, we expect a beta testing program before the end of 2018. Unfortunately and despite the long wait, this update will be targeting owners of the current flagship phones from the company – the Galaxy S9 and S9+. After the S9, Samsung will turn attention to the Galaxy S8, probably somewhere in Q2 2019.

The update to Pie will be the S9’s first and S8’s second. As for the Galaxy S7, the update to Oreo was the second major OS upgrade, marking the end of the road for the 2016 flagship. Typically, Samsung – and Google – rolls out two major OS upgrades to high-end devices and since the S7 has already gotten two, it just made way for the S8, which will now be getting the second and last major OS upgrade.
Once again, if you are lucky, the only other way to get Android Pie on your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge is using Pie-based custom ROMs. Hopefully, there will be plenty of them, but you can begin your search right below.
