Galaxy J8 release is close as firmware leaks out already

Samsung held an event in India on May 21 and launched a series of new phones. While the Galaxy A6 duo and Galaxy J6 handsets that launched on this day are already selling in various markets across the globe, another new entrant, the Galaxy J8, hasn’t seen the light of the day.

It’s nothing strange, though, as the company did mention during the launch event that the Galaxy J8 will be available for purchase beginning July 2018. Well, it’s only a week left between now and the beginning of July, however, the month has 31 days and since Samsung did not specify a day, we might be facing another month-long wait. Or maybe not.

If the leaked Galaxy J8 firmware is anything to go by, the phone’s release is imminent. The fact that there’s a ready firmware download out in the wild means Samsung’s only remaining task is to make the phone available for purchase.

The firmware carries model number SM-J810F, which can easily be associated with the global market. In India, Samsung Galaxy J8 will set you back INR 18,990, which is about $280. For this, you’ll be getting a device that packs a 6-inch 18.5:9 HD+ Super AMOLED display screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a dual 16MP + 5MP main shooter, a 16MP selfie camera and a 3500mAh battery unit.

Software-wise, the J8 runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and of course, this device will be upgraded to Android P, but knowing Samsung, this might happen in Q2 or even Q3 2019.

Update: The Galaxy J8 is now available for purchase in India for INR 18,990. If interested, you can grab one or two via the official Samsung Shop.
