First ZenFone 5 update improves face unlock, bokeh and AI features in camera app

Asus ZenFone 5Z

Asus recently refreshed the ZenFone series with a new ZenFone 5 family consisting of three handsets – ZenFone 5, ZenFone 5Z and ZenFone 5 Lite. The latter has already received its first software update and it’s now the turn for the standard variant to get its first update.

Asus ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL) is now receiving a new and much-needed update that brings some improvements to the camera and facial recognition feature. The update, which has software version 15.0615.1803.60, is already available over the air.

Full changelog:

  • Add dual camera bokeh function
  • Add AI related function
  • Camera performance improvement
  • Face Unlock performance improvement

The ZenFone 5 ships with a dual camera system that supports bokeh effects on photos, however, this feature wasn’t available out of the box. After this update, you’ll now be able to capture photos in portrait mode. Asus also says the update brings AI-related features, general camera performance improvements as well as improved performance for the Face Unlock function.

Since it’s an OTA update, it will take a few days before all ZenFone 5 handsets get the download notification, but you can try a manual update via Settings > System > System updates.
