Samsung recently confirmed that it will be letting the Bixby button on the Galaxy S10 series lose, thus allowing users to remap the button and use it to execute functions of their choice. Well, it’s happening folks, at least for those who got the review units of the S10 family.
The Galaxy S10 series will open sales on March 8th, but for the units that are already out here, a new update is available right now as version G975FXXU1ASBA, which, by all means, is targeting the Plus variant.
As per the changelog, which was first captured by Samsung-centric publication, Sam Mobile, build ASBA not only opens up the Bixby button to remapping but also improves the camera and in-display fingerprint functions.
Perhaps the latter will be the most welcomed addition, especially after some early adopters complained of a poorly functioning sensor, but of course, the same update should also bring plenty of other system-wide optimizations and bug fixes.
Note that the update has so far been spotted on the Galaxy S10+, but the same build ASBA should also come to the standard S10 and the smaller Galaxy S10e. At the moment, we don’t know whether the consumer-ready versions of the three devices will support the ability to remap the Bixby button out of the box.
Since Samsung had also revealed that the Bixby button on the Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8 will be freed up, it shouldn’t be long before we see a similar update rolling out to these devices.
