Essential phone update rolling out with November security patch and a fix for fingerprint gestures

Essential-Phone software update

The Essential Phone PH-1 is getting a new software update that includes the latest security patch and other bug fixes. Although the phone isn’t quite essential anymore, the company is still providing updates and improvements.

As per the change-log of the new update, it is still based on Android 7.1.1 and ups the software build to NMJ32F. Firstly, you get the November Android security patch on the device. That’s quite fast, as Google only released it for its devices yesterday. Secondly, a bug related to the Fingerprint sensor has now been fixed.

And that’s about it. The Essential phone hasn’t been doing as well as expected. Although the phone features a striking design and pretty good hardware, it was plagued with issues since day 1, mainly with the camera.

Recently, the company reduced the price of the device to just $449, a massive cut from the launch price of $750. So if you don’t mind an okay camera, then you should probably try out the Essential Phone, as it is still a very good looking device. It is also set to get the Android Oreo update in the coming months.

The latest software update is available via OTA and weighs around 58 MB. You can manually check for it, if you haven’t got it yet, by heading to Settings > About Phone > Software Update. Sprint and Telus users would have to wait for the carriers to approve the update.
